Overview

The National Candle Association (NCA) and the Asociación Latinoamericana de Fabricantes de Velas (ALAFAVE) are pleased to convene The 3rd World Candle Congress & Trade Show at Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resort in Orlando, Florida, July 5 – 9, 2010.  The theme of this year’s Congress is ENLIGHTENING THE WORLD and all candle manufacturers and suppliers are invited to participate.

Since the organizations were founded in 1974 and 1999, respectively, NCA and ALAFAVE have each held informative meetings aimed at increasing the knowledge of participants on all aspects of the industry.  During this triennial gathering, this year will be no different as together they build on the success of the First World Candle Congress in Orlando (2004) and the Second World Candle Congress in Cancun (2007).

Join your colleagues from the United States, Latin America and Europe – candle manufacturers and suppliers alike – to learn about the latest issues affecting the candle industry worldwide, to see what suppliers have to offer and to network with peers.  Each association will hold meetings for their Boards of Directors, committees and their general memberships.

The Joint Plenary Session, which aims to foster interaction among participants and promote international understanding, will include reports from NCA, ALAFAVE, the Association of European Candle Makers (AECM), the European Candle Association (ECA), and the International Guild of Candle Artisans (IGCA).  Also on the agenda is a panel discussion featuring trade issue perspectives from the U.S., Latin America and Europe.  The keynote address on “Michael Faraday: Scientific Insights from the Burning of a Candle” will be delivered by Carl Hudson, PhD, formerly with ExxonMobil Lubricants & Specialties Co.

The General Technical Session will feature presentations by Steven West and Michael Matthai (Westdeutsche Dochtfabrik GmbH & Co. KG – WEDO), Ricardo Motta Dittmer (MEGH Industria e Comercio, Ltda.), Bob Moss (SEA Ltd.), David Wolfe (Doneger) and Russ Smith (Walmart).  Their topics will range from complicated candle systems to what’s between slack wax and HOF waxes, from an overview of plastic tealight cups to new perspectives and trends in our changing world, as well as to candle safety and performance testing from the viewpoint of the world’s largest retailer.

In addition to the General Technical Session, there will be workshops on “Global Regulatory Update” and “CEN & ASTM Standards and the Candle Industry.”  Each workshop will consist of two sessions limited to 50 attendees each with Spanish-language translation available.  Workshops are open ONLY to FULL registrant attendees (subject to space limitations) and are included in the registration fees.  Be sure to sign up early!

Plan to view “Our Members, Our History – Enlightening Our World”, a historical retrospective of member candle manufacturers that are more then 50 years old.  And don’t forget to attend the ASTM F15-45 Candle Products Subcommittee meeting on Friday morning.

Also on the agenda are the first World Candle Congress Golf Tournament and an opening Meet & Greet Reception on Tuesday evening, the World Candle Congress Supplier Trade Show on Wednesday and the Closing Night Beach Party featuring a reception and dinner, followed by dessert at Epcot Center and, the highlight of the evening, Disney's visual and aural extravaganza, IllumiNations: Reflections of Earthon Thursday!
